Low-lights:
- I'm dealing with a small bout of food poisoning. It was bound to happen sooner or later.
- I still haven't found a flat so I'm moving in with Adam and Dianne temporarily.
- I miss going to khane. and my family. and my friends. and Austin.
- Everything I own smells like Cairo aka smoke.
- People don't have dryers. How am I supposed to shrink my jeans?!
- The mosquitoes are eating me alive.
- I've gone to a few malls and shopping areas and haven't felt the need to buy anything. The quality is bad and nothing is tempting. Sometimes you just need retail therapy.
- Taxi drivers drive me insane.
- People think A/C makes you sick.
- It has been in the 100's the past few days. Killer.
- I can't wait to start cooking. The food is here surprisingly bad all around, whether it's Egyptian or not.
- St. Patrick's Day will be non-existent.
- Adam & Dianne rock for inviting me to stay with them for a few weeks!
- I'm learning mean phrases in Arabic so I can yell at the taxi drivers. You have white metered taxis and black non metered taxis. With the black taxis, you get out and simply hand them what you want (reasonable, of course). They sometimes will not take it from you so I just drop it in the seat and say, "Take it or leave it. Peace." It seems to work out well for me.
- Today's high is only 85!!!
- I'm excited for our mini-Navroz celebration on Friday. A Pakistani family that has been residing in Cairo for the last 7 years is hosting it and the wife is supposed to be an excellent cook. mhmmm Nihari!
- Holi celebration at the Indian embassy this weekend.
- I can shop online and ship things to another Embassy friend's US compound address and it is as if I was shipping to the US.
- I am meeting lots of people.
- I hung out with Dr. Ali Asani, Islamic Studies Prof. from Harvard the other night and the intellectual stimulation was fantastic.
